Twenty Second Sunday of the Year
Readings: Sir 3:17-20; Heb 12:18, 19, 22-24; LK 14:1, 7-14
The pain of the poor is the pain of always being dependent. The rich can insulate themselves from the discomforts of life but they too cannot escape the pain of the heart.
The Gospel is asking that the cataracts of prejudice be removed from the eyes of both rich and poor. We are being asked to look behind the masks, to listen with our hearts and then with our heads. We must see the dignity of the human person irrespective of our position in life. We are being asked to recognise that all is a 'gift'
