The Baptism of the Lord

Jesus didn't need to get baptised. He was without sin, he may have gone to join John as a gesture of solidarity or to identify with the message of repentance that John was preaching.

Jesus saw his ministry as different to John's. His outreach was to the 'lost sheep of the house of Israel'.  The ministry of Christ was aimed at the marginalised people of society. Christ's ministry was a ministry of compassion, he told his disciples to go out and  'to preach and to heal'.

Readings Isa 60:1-6; Eph 3:2-3; 5-6; Mt 2:1-12

The Magi had a strange vision that they were prepared to follow. Like the Magi, true visionaries are people who can see in the dark....

People still talk of the need to 'follow ones star', meaning that no matter what the obsticles are, we ought not to relinquish our personal vission...

Christmas Day

Readings: Isa 9: 1-6; Lk 2: 1-14

There is a uniqueness about Christmas. It is a time of grace. The grace of family and the openness to those in need are proper to this wonderful time of the year.

In these recessonary times it is a good idea to consider what matters most in life, having people who care about us, and being able to care about other people is a blessing in itself, people are important, material goods are not, a smile or a hug, make a great christmas gift.
